Jardine Cribs Linked to Serious Injuries

Huge Jardine Crib Recall Ordered; Children May Be Trapped, Injured by Broken Wooden Slats

An estimated 320,000 Jardine Enterprises cribs have been recalled after it was found the wooden side slats on some models could break, trapping and injuring children. The cribs, sold in stores and on-line from 2002 to 2008, have been ordered off the market due to concerns that children could be strangled or otherwise injured.

Dozens of Incidents and Injuries Reported

There have been 42 reported incidents of injuries involving Jardine cribs, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Four children have been trapped in the opening created by a broken slat or spindle, and two of the children suffered cuts and bruises, officials said. The commission is continuing to investigate reports of injuries and incidents relating to the recalled cribs, officials said.

Dozens of Jardine Crib Models Recalled

Federal safety officials have named 28 models of Jardine cribs in the recall. The models came in many colors, finishes and styles and were sold at Toys "R" Us, Babies "R" Us, KidsWorld, Geoffrey Stores, and on-line at babiesrus.com from 2002 until May 2008. The cribs, which were made in China and Vietnam, sold for between $150 and $300, officials said.

The cribs were pulled from Toys "R" Us shelves in May 2008 as a "precautionary step" while the commission investigated their safety, company officials said.

Consumers who own a recalled Jardine crib are being offered vouchers for a new crib.
